Body 'n' Beat (Twerk & Queen) is a class created by Marconi that combines twerknique, foundational elements, and Jamaican Dancehall Queen Style. The workshop offers two levels: Beginner and Beginner Advanced. Starting with intense warm-ups including isolations, stretching, and core training, participants then learn basic twerk techniques to control and execute movements effectively. The class may also feature learning one or two Dancehall Queen tricks and concludes with learning a short choreography to enhance rhythm and muscle isolations.
So, what is Twerk? Twerking is a dance style where the dancer (often a woman) shakes her hips in an up-and-down bouncing motion, causing the buttocks to shake, wobble, and jiggle. Modern twerking shares similarities with Mapouka, a traditional West African dance known for its focus on buttock isolation and muscle control.
